Marvel Profiles: Spider-Man

“Spider-Man, Spider-Man, does whatever a spider can”! Undoubtedly one of the most famous Marvel characters ever to be born, with 5 films and plenty of games to his name. Spidey is certainly a crowd pleaser with his spider-like super powers that he uses to ward off his arch enemies and of course, save any damsels in distress that he may stumble upon.

How It All Began …

Peter Benjamin Parker was bitten by a radioactive spider while in high school and soon realised that as a result, he had inherited the super human powers of a spider giving him increased speed, agility and strength. He initially hoped to use his new-found abilities to boost his career as a scientist but soon realised that they were better used for the great of good. With great power also comes great responsibility as Peter learnt when his uncle Ben died, despite the fact that Spidey could have saved him and from that moment on, Spider-Man vowed to use his powers to help people.

Super Powers

Spidey can use his powers to cling to most surfaces just like a spider would. From the walls of a skyscraper to the top of a ceiling, his spider-like abilities allow Peter to sling webs, jump and swing making it easy for him to travel fast from place to place. He is about 15 times more nimble than normal humans and thanks to his superhuman kinaesthetics, he can detect danger before it erupts and this built-in early warning system goes a long way to keep him safe when fighting against evil powers.

Relationships with Allies

Spider-Man has a number of friends who help him to protect the city of New York including Spinner, who is a member of the Galactic Alliance of Spider-Men. Spider-Man is featured on one of the online slots for Marvel on the Ladbrokes websites along with some of his more famous allies. Access, Human Torch, Flash Thompson, Harry Osborn, Gwen Stacy, Aunt May Parker, Black Cat, J. Jonah Jameson and Mary Jane Watson make up the main list of Spider-Man’s best friends and they can regularly be seen helping him out of numerous sticky situations.

Arch enemies

No superhero is ever a true hero without a list of mortal enemies ranging from thieves and gangsters through to megalomaniacs. The Tinkerer, Chameleon, The Vulture, Sandman, Electro, Doctor Doom, Doctor Octopus and Hydro-Man are some of Spidey’s most feared enemies, along with Shocker, Green Goblin and Venom – all of whom come with their own set of terrifying super powers.

Spider-Man is the quintessential Marvel comic book character, with his powers that he uses for good in his bid to beat evil and he has proved to be one of the world’s most loveable characters mainly due to his humble nature rather than his glamorous talent.
